Notification for admission to Ph.D. programme-2024

Online applications available on the website of University of Kashmir (www.kashmiruniversity.ac.in) are invited from the eligible candidates (exempted category: UGC/CSIR/ICAR-NET/JRF, SET/GATE/M.Phil.) for admission to Ph. D programme in the below mentioned disciplines/subjects as per the available vacancies in the main and other satellite campuses of the university.

Eligibility criteria for admission to Ph. D Programme

  • 55% marks in aggregate, or its equivalent grade “B” in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed, excluding grace/statutory marks, if any, in Master’s Degree in the concerned subject/allied subject from a recognized university or in any recognized Professional Degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the Equivalence Committee of the University or an equivalent Degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under law having this mandate or by an Equivalence Committee of the University. However a relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or equivalent relaxation of grade shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), persons with disability (PWDs) and other categories of candidates approved by the university.
  • The candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR/ICAR-NET/JRF, SET/GATE or any other equivalent test declared so by the UGC or have passed M.Phil with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade “B” in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale where ever grading system is followed) However, a relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or equivalent relaxation of grade shall be allowed for the M.Phil pass outs belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), persons with disability (PWDs) and other categories of candidates approved by the University. Dissertations of those scholars, who have completed their M.Phil from any UGC recognized university/institution other than the University of Kashmir, shall be checked for plagiarism/similarity index before such applicants are considered for admission to Ph. D programme.

Procedure for admission

  1. The candidates with JRF will be selected in the first instance against the available vacancies. However, where the numbers of vacancies are less than the number of candidates with JRF, the selection shall be made on the basis of PG merit.The remaining vacancies(if any) will be selected from the list of other eligible candidates with NET/SET/GATE/ M. Phil on the basis of overall merit position obtained as per the following criteria:

  • The eligible candidates shall be required to appear before the respective Departmental Research Committees (DRC’s) for interaction to ascertain the (i) student interest (ii) inclination (iii) research aptitude and (iv) area of specialization of the candidate (v) availability of specialization. DRC shall finalize the list of selected candidates for the Ph. D programme along with the allotment of supervisor(s).
  • The list of the selected candidates along with the waiting list will be prepared by the DRC and will be forwarded by its chairperson to the concerned Dean of the School by 05-06- 2024 for further approvals.
  • The list of selected candidates will be notified by the Dean of the School concerned and will be made available on the website of the university (www.kashmiruniversity.ac.in) by 15-06-2024.

Note: Mere appearance in the list of qualified candidates shall not entitle a candidate to the final selection, if he/she is either found otherwise in-eligible or there is no vacancy available in the Department/Centre/Institute.

Eligibility for joining as part-time scholar

The basic eligibility and admission procedure for in-service candidates joining as part-time Ph. D student remains same as to the candidates for whole-time basis. The in-service candidates joining as part-time Ph. D student shall be open to only:

  1. University teachers with at least two years of substantive service;
  2. Permanent scientists (Scientist A/B/C/D) from nationally recognized institutions with at least four years of substantive service;
  3. Govt. College teachers with at least four years of substantive service;
  4. Non-teaching employees of the universities/nationally recognized educational and research institutions with at least four years of substantive service and seven years of substantive service for State/Central Govt. employees;

Applicants shall visit University website (www.kashmiruniversity.ac.in) and submit online applications by clicking Application Form for research programmes-2024 under Admission Tab of the website from 01-05-2024 to 15-05-2024. Applicants are required to deposit non-refundable application fee of Rs.100/- through online mode. In-service candidates are required to mention in the form the date of appointment/Department and Length of Service supported by documentary proof to be uploaded along with qualification certificates.

Director, IT & SS, University of Kashmir will facilitate the concerned Deans of Schools in downloading the online applications submitted by the candidates. Downloaded applications shall be forwarded to the concerned Heads of Deptts./Directors of Research Centres for further necessary action at their end.
