Part I: Unveiling the Urdu Dimension
Duration: 1 hour | Marks: 50
Part I, solely of descriptive nature, serves as a gateway to showcase candidates’ proficiency in Urdu. While it is qualifying in nature, it’s an essential component to clear for progressing to the next stage.
- Guidelines for Checking Working Knowledge of Urdu:
The exam aims to gauge candidates’ “working knowledge of Urdu” through a Reading and Writing test, encompassing a total of 50 marks within 60 minutes. Candidates must achieve a minimum of 40% overall score (with at least 33% in Reading and Writing sections separately) for the “OM” Category and 35% for other categories to qualify.
Reading Section (20 marks):
- Candidates respond to questions based on given passages.
Writing Section (30 marks):
- Letter writing (10 marks): Composing a letter of minimum 100 words addressing a specific situation.
- Translation (10 marks): Translating an English passage into Urdu or vice versa.
- Essay Writing (10 marks): Crafting an essay of around 100 words on a socially relevant topic.
