NEET 2024 Paper Leaked in Bihar; Many Arrested, Investigation Continues

In a startling turn of events, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar police, after taking control of the probe into the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 paper “leak” case, has uncovered a web of corruption that has shaken the foundations of the medical entrance examination system. The EOU revealed that brokers demanded exorbitant sums ranging from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh from each medical aspirant in exchange for providing them with the question papers ahead of the examination on May 5.

Several documents, including bank cheques, roll codes of candidates, and other crucial papers, were seized from the flats of Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand, who were arrested by the Patna police on May 5. During interrogation, the arrested aspirants divulged shocking details, indicating that around 35 medical aspirants were clandestinely escorted to the Learn Boys Hostel at Ram Krishna Nagar. These aspirants confessed that the NEET question paper they received from the brokers mirrored the one they encountered during the actual examination, a day later.

Manavjit Singh Dhillon, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), EOU, emphasized, “We will collaborate with the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the NEET, to extract details of those students whose roll codes were found in the possession of the accused. Every detail is under meticulous scrutiny.”

Investigations uncovered the elaborate scheme orchestrated by Amit Anand, who operates an education consultancy firm, luring examinees with promises of assistance in competitive exams. Anand, in league with broker Sikander Yadavendu, a junior engineer in Danapur Nagar Parishad, meticulously plotted the manipulation of the NEET paper. The accused even resorted to burning the question papers at a rented flat in Ram Krishna Nagar to eliminate evidence.

“The modus operandi employed in the alleged NEET paper leak bears striking resemblance to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE)-3.0 paper leak case,” asserted DIG Dhillon, shedding light on the unnervingly recurrent pattern of corruption infiltrating crucial examinations.

The arrested aspirants disclosed harrowing accounts of being stripped of their cellphones upon arrival at the rented flat, ensuring their isolation from external communication channels. They were then ferried to their examination centers by the accused, cementing the gravity of the corruption that has insidiously seeped into the fabric of the examination process.

Dhillon added, “Raids are ongoing to apprehend the mastermind behind this nefarious operation, whose contact number was traced from the confiscated cellphones of the aspirants. The individual in question leased the flat at Ram Krishna Nagar and orchestrated the orchestration of the aspiring candidates to the location.”

As the investigation unravels the extent of the corruption plaguing the NEET-UG 2024 examination, questions loom over the integrity of the entire examination system and the efficacy of the measures in place to safeguard the sanctity of such crucial assessments.
